People’s Public Service Commissioner

New York’s Public Service Commission (PSC) wields an incredible amount of power over New York’s energy system, from deciding rates to regulating distributed renewable resources. Unfortunately, the PSC is an unelected body, appointed by the Governor and not accountable in any way to the people it proposes to serve. The Energy Democracy Alliance has called for more democratic oversight of our energy system and proposes a “People’s Public Service Commissioner” elected from a background of environmental justice, community organizing and local renewable energy.
